The Arm Dreadnought

Heavy Siege Hovercraft

Say hello to the longest time consuming unit in the game, it even takes longer than the Krogoth. I guess that is something special, considering it is supposed to be the Arm's counter to the Core Krogoth.  Even though the Arm Dreadnought is the counter for the Core Krogoth, they are very different.

The major difference is that the Dreadnought is a hover craft while the Krogoth is a kbot. The Krogoth can only go on land while the Dreadnought can go on both land and sea. So if you build a Dreadnought you can use it for sea battles as well as attacking a base. Krogoth isn't worth building on a map unless it is all land or I you can get to Arm's base by land. Try to convince me to spend 29,000 metal on something that cannot get too many of the spots I would need it to get to on the map.

The Dreadnought however is a hover craft, so even on water maps it's useful.   The Dreadnought does have one other advantage right from the start. It is built by a hover craft platform, not in some special factory like the Krogoth Gantry. The hover craft platform cost a lot less than the Krogoth Gantry and it also build allot quicker than the Gantry. The Dreadnought also costs 10,000 metal less then the Krogoth. It does take longer to build then the Krogoth, so you will probably want to assign at least a few construction units to help build it. The Dreadnought can only take 13850 damage compared to the 29918 that the Krogoth can take so I don't see this as entirely fair, but it makes up for the fact that the Dreadnought is a hover craft.

The Dreadnought is equipped with three weapons. It fires a a weapon called the Dread Gun, sort of a mini Bertha. Its a nice weapon to use for base assaults. This gun takes 1800 energy per shot, but because its fire rate isn't high it isn't a problem. The Dread Gun tracks well and is effective against most units, its default damage is 1500. Its second weapon is the same missile that the Krogoth fires. It does more damage to air targets then ground targets, though unlike the Krogoth it fires them even when you tell it to attack a target. Its third weapon is called the Dread Depth Charge, it use is to protectit on sea from the attack of subs, but you still may want to protect it with subs because it is not that fast.  The Dreadnought is extremely useful on base assaults. They can destroy allot of buildings in a hurry and it has enough armour to take a good beating. They are not as effective against large numbers of ground units however.

In short, keep them protected with quick firing units like the Mavericks and units like the KAAT to protect it from aerial assaults.  Overall, I think the Dreadnought is not a good counter for the Core Krogoth due to the fact it has less armour and that the Dreadnought is a hover craft. It is used as a powerful base assault unit its good but other than that its useless. One on one it's a good match for about any unit out there minus a Krogoth. If you like mixed maps of water and land you can't go wrong building the Dreadnought. If you are looking for a counter for the Core Krogoth, check out the Arm Kryptor. (Sparhawk)

The Arm Arch

Heavy Gatling Plasma Battery

If there was ever a finer plasma defense weapon for the Arm, I haven’t seen it yet. This weapon raises the standard for fast, powerful defense. The Arm Arch is perfectly balanced. And is a mush have for any TA fan. To start off, the unit model is perfect. And all of the settings are exquisite. Ever get tired of those nasty instigator rushes? Well this can solve your problem. Not only is the Arch good at dishing out heavy damage, it is also good at taking hits too. With just the right amount of armor and firepower it is my opinion that this unit could have been worthy to be an official Cavedog unit. Another feature that makes the Arch appealing is its ability to fire over Dragon’s Teeth. This means you can have an extra layer of protection without having to compromise on its efficiency. The reload time of 0.60 seconds makes it just similar to a fully automatic Guardian. And since it only uses 50 energy units per shot, you can have multiple Archs all over your base protecting you from any Core nuisance. One favorite tactic of mine, is to send a radar jammer ahead of an Adv. Construction unit, and build an Arch right next to the enemies base with dragons teeth all around. It will make quick work of anything nearby. This is one of the best defensive weapons I have seen, great work PWD! (Timeshifter)

The Arm Banshee

Light Gunship

Anyone remember the Banshee? This unit is an oldie but a goodie. The Banshee is a light gunship designed for early harassment of the enemy. One thing this baby is good at is taking down metal extractors and solar plants early in the game. It can really put a kink in resource production. The V-TOL aircraft has a light EMG cannon that can do some heavy damage if there is nothing to stop it. When attacking the aircraft hovers in the air as the dual-jets keeps it a-float. For the small price of 113 metal and 4728 Energy this unit is an asset to the Arm. What it lacks in armor it tries to make of for with speed. The Banshee is not built to handle major air defense; one flakker can take down a bucket-full of these. I like this unit because (to me) it’s a classic. One funny little quirk I like about the Banshee is its’ acrobatic maneuvers that it executes in mid-air. This unit is a good one but don’t expect it to take down a great number of enemy units in the later stages if the game. Overall I give this unit an 86%. (Timeshifter)

The Arm Vega

Seaplane Gunship

The Arm Vega is one of the only 3rd party seaplane units that I have. And if I keep the unit it must be good right? (mabey not) Anyway, this seaplane is similar to the Brawler but with several advancements, and of course a new model. The Vega isn’t all that original, it’s basically a Brawler that can go underwater, thought if you like variety in your arsenal it is a good download. I believe more time could have been put into the visual design and attack maneuvers. From a technical point, the Vega’s speed is average for a seaplane, and its armor helps it stay flying for a while. It can take several hits from anti-air defense but after that the Vega craps out. Weapons on it are a combo of the standard EMG and a light missile launcher. The launcher helps give a little extra punch to its target. When making an attack run, the one thing that was pretty cool was when the wings parted a little bit to let the missile launcher pop up and do it’s work. As I said before, the Vega is good only if you like to have every type of unit for every situation. Since there was no EMG seaplane it was a very good attempt to fill the void. It’s a good unit, and with a little tweaking, it could become a great unit. Let me just say in the nicest way that the Vega is not an essential unit. (Timeshifter)

The Core Venom

Fast Assult Hovercraft

Many of you have probably run across the Core Venom before, probably because it’s sorta old. This is one of those units from the first wave of the 3rd party hovercraft units. This unit is a lightly armored attack craft for the Core that has it’s advantages and disadvantages. To start off it’s 3-D model reminds you of a futuristic bumper car. The Venom is incredibly light, giving it a thumbs up in the speed department. The top-mounted heavy laser makes this spiffy hovercraft give a pretty big punch in battle, although it might take 1 second to rotate around and lock onto a target. This unit also builds pretty quickly, so you could pump out a squad of 5 in almost no time with the commander helping out. Now for the weaknesses of this unit… The Venom does have a tad bit of trouble getting around trees and rocks. It can get going up to full speed, but then if it needs to make a minor course correction the whole thing has to slow down. So really only use these in open landscape and water environments. The armor absolutely sucks on this thing, but to make it a balanced unit I guess it had to be that way. A few shots from almost any unit can put it out of business. (Timeshifter)
